Challenge
Tonga’s capital, Nuku’alofa,
faces unique urban
challenges relating to land
constraints, declining
social services and
deteriorating urban
infrastructure.
Outputs
Formulation of a US$ 30
million high priority
integrated urban planning
and investment program,
including road
rehabilitation, traffic
management reforms, flooding
and drainage infrastructure,
and a groundwater monitoring
system.
Impacts
The urban investment program
will greatly enhance
transport, urban drainage
and environmental protection
within the main urban center
of Nuku’alofa.
